This year marks my 19th year in education. I have taught pre-school, kindergarten, first, and second grades in public and private schools. I have loved each part of my teaching journey, but my heart is truly in the kindergarten classroom!
Iowa has not always been home. I grew up in Columbus, Ohio. At the beginning of my sophomore year in high school, I committed my life to following Jesus. Bible studies held in school, along with intensely committed believing friends did much to disciple my faith.
Following high school, I attended South Dakota State University. I finished my undergraduate degree in Child Development and was married in 1980 to my husband, Terry, whom I met at SDSU. In 1982, I obtained a second degree in Elementary Education at Iowa State University, in hopes of attaining a kindergarten teaching position upon graduation.
Ballard Community School answered that dream and I taught at Ballard until my first child was born. I home schooled my two children, Mark and Susan, through their primary grades, and then began teaching for Johnston Community School District. Upon retiring from Johnston in 2013, I began subbing for Ames Christian School. I quickly fell in love with ACS’s warm Christian environment, small class sizes, family involvement, and individualized education. In 2014, I began teaching full-time for ACS.
I am honored to be able to follow God’s call to serve Him at Ames Christian School. Sharing God’s love story with young children is a privilege! It warms my heart to see how the students grow each day. I look forward to many days ahead watching God lead at ACS.
