Third and Fourth Grade
Iowa was not exactly where I thought I would end up. I got a wonderful opportunity to student teach at ACS in the 3rd & 4th grade classroom, and decided this is where I wanted to be. The Lord provided for me to go from a student teacher to a teacher working with the same age group, and I am now in my second year at ACS. Though my family is far from me, I still feel the family that I have gained throughout my time here.
I grew up in Elyria, OH, and my parents still reside there. I have one sister, who lives in Eastern Pennsylvania with her husband. I grew up in a Christian home, and had the privilege of witnessing my parent's guidance to the Lord. As the daughter of a teacher at First Baptist Christian School, it was an easy decision to have me attend there growing up. I knew that Christ was going to be a central part of my life, and I made the decision to accept him into my heart when I was pretty young. My mom definitely helped guide me to this path of asking for forgiveness. I knew I needed to continue my walk in faith, so at the age of 8 I was baptized. This lead to the dedication that I made in high school to allow Christ to direct me to whatever he wanted me to do.
I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Education from Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, IA. This gave me the opportunity to teacher 3rd grade for part of a year, and also get experience with K4 for part of a year.
I try to stay active with my church as well as with ACS. My church family at Ankeny Baptist Church is absolutely wonderful and I chose to further my involvement by participating in their choir. When moving to Ames, I knew that I was looking for a safe environment to develop my skills as a teacher, and this gave me the privilege to teach with the freedom of religion. The Lord is a vital part of each day, and it warms my heart knowing I can share this with my students.
Throughout my life, I have learned that God truly does have a plan for us, and he will bless us as we follow His way. God has so richly blessed me in so many ways.
I was born into a Christian home, and from the time I was very young, my parents used God’s Word to guide and train me. At the age of six I accepted Christ as my personal Savior. I was privileged to attend First Baptist Christian School in Elyria, Ohio from fifth grade through graduation. After graduating, the Lord led me to Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa. In May 2004, I graduated from Faith with my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. While at Faith, I also received my Middle School Endorsement.
While I was still a student at Faith, I had the awesome opportunity to student teach with Peggy Smith right here at Ames Christian School. Student teaching in a combined third and fourth grade classroom was a challenging, yet rewarding experience. What a joy and privilege to play a part in training and teaching children not only academically, but spiritually as well! After graduation, the Lord very clearly lead in my life and provided the opportunity to go back home to Ohio and teach a year of fourth grade and a year of fifth grade at Christian schools in the area.
In June of 2006, I returned to Iowa and the next year my husband and I got married. In September of 2008, God led me back to Ames Christian School to begin teaching the third and fourth grades. I taught full-time for six years then took a year off after our daughter, Anna, was born. I returned this year to teach fourth grade part-time. I am so very excited to begin my seventh year of teaching here at ACS!
