Week of November 17, 2008

Science 7th and 8th

Monday 17

  •  Students read about igneous rocks on Friday
  • Today we will learn how to organize our notes and learn more about how igneous rocks are made and how they are classified.

Tuesday 18: We continued our study of igneous rocks today instead.

  • MOVE CONTENT TO WEDNESDAY.  Today our topic is sedimentary rocks and learning how they are formed and what they are made of.
  • There are a lot of vocabulary words students will need to be familiar with.

Wednesday 19: MOVE CONTENT TO THURSDAY

  • Metamorphic rocks are our topic today.  We will learn how they were formed and what makes them change.

ASSIGNMENT:  Read pg 68-70

Thursday 20: MOVE CONTENT TO MONDAY

  • We will do a lab that helps us understand the difference between each of these kinds of rocks and how they are formed.

   ASSIGNMENT: Lab report needs to be completed.
Quiz tomorrow over first three lessons.

Friday 21:MOVE to MONDAY also.

  • We will summarize the lab and take our rock quiz TUESDAY.

Math 7th and 8th

Monday 17

  • 7th:  Finish fraction and decimal worksheet for Tuesday. We will also work on the problem solving activity with the 8th graders.
  • 8th: Students will do a problem solving activity and correct lesson 41

Tuesday 18

  • 7th:  Ratio and simple probability is our topic for today.  
                ASSIGNMENT:  PS 36: (Pg 216) a-j,1-5,19-29 (odd)
                DUE THURSDAY
  • 8th:  We will learn lesson 42, which challenges students to find the overall average of a set of data.
                   ASSIGNMENT: PS 42
    : (pg 121) 1-30  Assignment Due Thursday.    Test Thursday

Wednesday 19

  • 7th: We will do a review assignment in order to prepare us for the test on Thurday.
  • 8th: Students will correct their lesson 42 and we will review key concepts.  Students will also be introduced to the extra credit board.
                   ASSIGNMENT:  Prepare for Test tomorrow

Thursday 20

  • 7th:  Test today over lessons 1-36
  • 8th:  Test today over lessons 1-40

Friday 21

  • 7th:  Lesson 37 teaches us more about how to find the area of triangles and rectangles.
  • 8th: Lesson 43 continues to challenge us with using order of operation and how to convert area from one unit of measure to another.
                ASSIGNMENT:  PS 43 (pg 124) a-d, 1-6, 9-29 (odd)

7th and 8th Grade

Earth Science: 7th and 8th

Monday 10:  We will complete a summary lab where students will be given a mineral and need to identify it based on all of it's characteristics.
                     ASSIGNMENT:  Lab report and study for test AND mineral ID extra credit

Tuesday 11:  Review day for our Minerals Chapter Test tomorrow   
                 Mineral ID worksheet also due for extra credit.
                     ASSIGNMENT: STUDY FOR SCIENCE tEST

Wednesday 12: Science Test today

Thursday 13:  We will spend a day learning about why leaves change colors and putting together a learning board.

Friday 14:  Today we will start our rock unit by learning about igneous rocks
                        ASSIGNMENT: Read pg 58-62

Math 7th and 8th

Monday 10:

  • 7th:  We will work on plotting decimal numbers on the number line today.  This is an excellent way to test knowledge of place value.
                      ASSIGNMENT:  PS 34 (pg 203) a-e, 1-4, 8-30 (evens)
  • 8th  Lesson 38 teaches us how to use rates to solve rate word problems
                   ASSIGNMENT:  Ps 38:  a,b, 1-7,10-30 (evens)

Tuesday 11

  • 7th:  Lesson 35 challenges us to add, subtract, multiply and divide decimal numbers.  We will spend two days on this lesson.
                ASSIGNMENT:  PS 35 (pg 209) a-p, 1-29 (odd)  DUE THURSDAY
  • 8th  We are starting to get more into the algebraic thought processes with this lesson.  Students will learn how to solve basic equations.
                   ASSIGNMENT:  PS 39: a-c, 1-3,11-29 (odd)

Wednesday 12

  • 7th: Today will be a work day and review day for lesson 35.  Homework due tomorrow
  • 8th  We will use our whiteboards to solve many basic equations using our new process steps.  No homework

Thursday 13

  • 7th:  PS 35 due today.  A worksheet reviewing fractions and decimals will be given today.
                   ASSIGNMENT:  worksheet due tomorrow
  • 8th:We will spend the next two days working on lesson 41 as students work with reciprocals and multiplication.
                   ASSIGNMENT:  PS 41 (pg 118) a-f, 2-30 (even)
                         Due Monday

Friday 14

  • 7th:  We will introduce the concept of ratio and simple probability.  An assignment might be given depending on how well students understand the material.
  • 8th We will continue on Ps 41 today as we  continue to practice multiplying by the reciprocal.
